Planning your visit and wondering how it works if someone in your group is driving?
Across Speyside, many distilleries and whisky experiences welcome designated drivers, with options to take part without drinking on site.
During the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, this is also widely supported across a range of events.
- What is a designated driver?
Someone in your group who chooses not to drink and is responsible for driving.
At many distilleries and events, this does not mean missing out.
- What are Drivers’ Drams?
Some experiences offer Drivers’ Drams. These are samples provided in sealed miniature bottles to enjoy later.
Availability varies depending on the distillery or event, so it is always worth checking in advance.
- Do I need a ticket?
For festival events, a ticket is usually required even if you are not drinking.
Outside of the festival, this will depend on the distillery or experience. Some may offer alternative options for non-drinkers or drivers.
- What can I expect?
Arrangements vary by location, but may include:
- Drivers’ Drams to take away
- Non-alcoholic options
- Adjusted experiences for non-drinkers
If you are unsure, contact the distillery or event provider directly before your visit.
Planning Your Journey
Rural roads reminder
Many distilleries are in remote locations. Be prepared for:
- Single-track roads with passing places
- Winding routes and sharp bends
- Deer, sheep and cyclists
Mobile signal can be patchy, so download directions in advance and allow extra time for your journey.
