A true family whisky

Little could William Grant, the founder of The Glenfiddich Distillery, have known as he watched the first pure spirit flow from his second-hand copper stills on Christmas Day 1887, that Glenfiddich would still be owned and run by his family over five generations later.

Yet Glenfiddich has always been a family affair, a story he started when he hand-built the distillery in the Glen of Fiddich (Gaelic for Valley of the Deer) with the help of his seven sons and two daughters in a single year. Astute, determined and entrepreneurial from the start, he ensured they fulfilled a lifelong family ambition of creating the ‘best dram in the valley’.

William still remains a constant inspiration today as Glenfiddich’s team of craftsmen continue to make this exceptional whisky to his exacting standards, using the same sized stills and the same source of pure water from the Robbie Dhu spring.

Over 125 years later, Glenfiddich’s range of single malts have become the most awarded whiskies in the world, a true reflection of the passion, integrity and pioneering spirit passed down through all five generations of William’s family.
