Eric Walker BSc (HONS), MMalt, MBA, FIBD.   School Director

Lecture – Scotch Whisky Mashing and Fermentation

A Research & Development Scientist with DCL for 6 years, following a BSc Honours degree in Biochemistry from Heriot-Watt University in 1976, Eric started his operations career as Assistant Manager, Burghead Maltings. He soon became Maltings Manager at Port Ellen on Islay, where he met his wife Marion, then returned to the mainland as Technical Manager for DC(Cereals) based in Elgin, achieving a Master Maltster degree along the way.

Eric became Senior Manager of Burghead & Roseisle Maltings and also successfully studied for an MBA.

He moved to the Highlands to run the combined operations of Glen Ord & Teaninich Distilleries, Glen Ord Maltings, Northern Engineering Centre, and Glen Ord Visitor Centre.

His final operational role was Senior Manager of seven distilleries in Speyside and, immediately prior to his retirement at the end of 2015, was Technical Development Manager for Diageo’s Scottish Distillation & Maturation operation.

He was extremely proud to be invited to become a Fellow of the Institute of Brewing & Distilling for services to the industry and maintains his educational & training links with the IBD.

Eric is married with a daughter and has a tremendous passion for astronomy & astrophotography and cycling & skiing.
