A Sense of Place - Aberlour Botanical Walk

  • 3 May
  • £15.00
  • Aberlour Distillery
  • Aberlour

A guided walk and talk which explores the historic, medicinal, culinary and beverage uses of some of the plants in the glen behind Aberlour Distillery, with insights into how the glen has been used over the centuries and also some links to the legends and myths of the area – all in all, giving the distillery a "sense of place".

Following the Lour Burn to the Linn Falls you will explore the style, aroma and flavours that make Aberlour single malt whisky unique and, we hope, this will enhance your interest in, and enjoyment of the dram at the end of the walk.

A few metres beyond the distillery walls you will discover trees and undergrowth which often go unnoticed. Plants with remarkable and useful properties that were instantly recognised, well known to, and gathered by our distant ancestors. They have become hidden from our modern technology-biased world as most of us are no longer looking at them as we stroll past.

Dr Kathy Ader is an expert historical ecologist who will lead this circular walk to the Linn Falls behind Aberlour Distillery, pausing at frequent intervals to point out the plants and bring the natural history of the area to life. Her commentary will enhance our appreciation of how the area has developed over many centuries.

Stout footwear is advised and a waterproof jacket is recommended in case of bad weather. In places the path is steep and it may be muddy. Walkers are asked to remain with the organised group as Dr Ader will speak about the many items of interest at frequent intervals.

Over 18s only please

The walk will end with a dram.

Please meet at Aberlour Distillery Visitor Centre Reception.
