- The Whisky Shop Dufftown
This is a whisky and food pairing evening with a difference. The Whisky Shop Dufftown are laying down a challenge. Can you pick better whiskies to pair with the courses than we can? This event is for no more than 14 guests as we want the evening to be intimate and interactive.
The evening will start with transport from The Whisky Shop Dufftown at 7:00 pm (with potential pick-ups in Craigellachie and Aberlour). On arrival at The Dowans Hotel you will be greeted with a specially-created cocktail by Lauren Murray, co-owner of the hotel which will be inspired by Speyside.
We will then gather in The Still room for dinner. This room has a whole wall of phenomenal whiskies plus windows boasting amazing views over the Spey which will provide the most exquisite back-drop for your fine dining experience.
The menu has been created by executive chef and co-owner Steph Murray. As always with The Dowans, the menu will feature the very best produce which will be sourced locally wherever possible.
Three of the courses during the meal will be paired with 2 specially selected whiskies. One will be chosen by The Whisky Shop Dufftown team. The other whisky will be chosen by you, our guests. Shortly after booking your tickets we will email each group with the full menu less any surprises - obviously. This is not just for you to check for any allergies but for each group to select 3 whiskies which are available from The Whisky Shop Dufftown and which you believe will complement each individual course. Yes, any whisky that is in-stock at www.whiskyshopdufftown.com. You have a theoretical budget of £400 for the "purchase" of 3 bottles of whisky. We will select at random the whiskies for each course from your suggestions. If a whisky is nominated by more than one group for a course then this whisky will be selected.
Each group's vote will need to be received by no later than 31 March.
The meal will commence with whisky inspired canapés to get your gastronomical experience started. Your appetiser will follow and be matched with 2 whiskies. One chosen by the guests and one chosen by The Whisky Shop Dufftown team. As with each of the whisky pairing courses we will ask you for your comments on the pairings and vote for your favourite. The whole concept is to see how different flavours are emphasised or created by each individual pairing. The whisky tasting will be done blind but we will tell you at the end of each course what the whiskies are. Then there will be a palate cleansing whisky sorbet before the main course. This will be again paired with 2 whiskies. Then dessert will follow in the same format. Your meal will end with coffee or tea, whisky truffles and a relaxing dram.
You will then have time to chill out in The Still room or the M-Bar and have further drinks if you wish (this is not included in the ticket price).
There are 7 drams, a cocktail, dinner and transport included in your ticket price. Please feel free to buy extra drinks at your own expense during the meal but please settle your bill for these drinks before leaving the table.
At 11:00 pm we travel back to Dufftown.
We hope you will enjoy this very special evening with us. The dress code is as formal as you like. Mike from The Whisky Shop Dufftown will be in full Highland dress but please dress as you feel most comfortable.
Over 18's only please. Please ensure you have read our terms and conditions for events.
