Dalmunach Distillery will open its doors especially for the Festival and offers a Manager’s Tour of the distillery with some insights into the design of this landmark building. At the end of the tour visitors will be offered a dram of the whisky.

The £25m state-of-the-art facility was officially opened in June 2015 by Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. Situated on the site of the former Imperial Distillery on the banks of the River Spey, Dalmunach was built using the latest innovations and environmental expertise. It is the most energy efficient distillery within Chivas Brothers’ portfolio and has been praised for its design efficiency. Every element of the distillery design, including the unique still shapes, has been geared to producing the very highest quality Speyside malt whisky with a rich, fruity character, a vital ingredient for the highest quality blended Scotch whiskies.

Dalmunach Distillery is an excellent example of securing the future of the whisky industry by respecting its heritage. It is fitting that remnants of the old Imperial Distillery have been built into an extremely efficient distillery with an architecturally stunning design inspired by the shape of a sheaf of barley reflecting the core ingredient of single malt whisky. It houses eight unique copper pot stills, with a tulip shape used for the wash stills and an onion shape used for the spirit stills, replicating those from the Imperial Distillery.

Assistant Manager Kelsey Bruce will show you original features from the previous distillery which have been carefully incorporated. They include red brick from the original mill building which was reclaimed to create a feature wall in the new entrance area. Wood from the original wash-backs was used to form an entrance ‘drum’ and adorn the gable walls of the new tun room. Great care was taken to ensure the external façade of the distillery is sympathetic to its environment and the traditional architectural style of the region.
